Yesterday, Sablayanihan volunteers visited the children and families of the Alangan Tribe living along the flood plain of a river in Sitio Calumangan, Barangay Lagnas.

The settlement consists of 54 families, with around 100 young children. They normally live in the higher area, on the hills and mountains beside the river where they cultivate some vegetables like sweet potato –‘ kamote’. However, they move downhill, along the floodplain or on the sandbar when the weather is good, and move uphill when the heavy rains and storms come. Although some children are doing module-based education, the majority of children do not go to school.

Sablayanihan volunteers’ visit was indeed a fun-filled activity! Children received their first pairs of slippers, toys, and small food packs. Families and children gathered together to enjoy the delicious chicken-vegetable-macaroni soup prepared by our volunteers.
